Bosch Dishwasher E15 Error Code: Fix Guide
Express Xpert Team • 2/7/2026
The Bosch dishwasher E15 error code usually means the appliance has activated its leak-protection system. Bosch dishwashers have a base tray and safety float designed to detect water where it should not be. Once that float trips, the machine may stop mid-cycle, run the drain pump continuously, and refuse to start a new wash program. While the code sometimes appears after a one-time spill or suds overflow, it more often points to an actual internal leak that needs attention.
What the E15 Code Means
E15 tells you the dishwasher believes there is water in the bottom safety pan. That water may come from a loose hose, worn seal, cracked sump component, damaged water inlet, or oversudsing that pushed foam into places it should not go. Bosch intentionally shuts down normal operation to help prevent cabinet, flooring, and electrical damage.
Start With Safety
If the dishwasher is still humming or draining continuously, turn it off at the control panel and, if needed, switch off power at the breaker before inspecting anything. Pull the unit forward only if you can do so safely. If you see water around the toe-kick area or under the cabinets, dry the area and avoid running the machine again until the source is identified.
Check for Simple Overflow Causes
Using regular dish soap instead of dishwasher detergent can create excess suds and trigger E15. Spilled rinse aid or a badly loaded cycle can also create unusual foam conditions. If you recently changed detergent or had an obvious overflow event, clean up any visible moisture and let the unit dry completely before retesting. If the code returns, the issue is likely deeper than temporary foam.
Inspect Common Leak Points
Many E15 calls come from worn door seals, loose inlet hoses, leaking circulation pumps, or sump assemblies that have developed a crack. Bosch dishwashers are tightly built, which is great for quiet operation but makes leak tracing difficult without partial disassembly. A technician often needs to remove panels, run the machine under observation, and identify the exact point where water escapes.
Can You Reset a Bosch E15 Error?
You may temporarily clear the code by drying the base tray and cycling power, but that only solves the symptom. If an actual leak remains, the code will return the next time the dishwasher fills and washes. Repeated resets can give water more time to damage nearby cabinetry or flooring, so they are not a long-term solution.
When Professional Repair Makes Sense
If E15 appears more than once, if the dishwasher will not stop draining, or if you see moisture around the appliance, professional repair is recommended. Bosch leak issues can involve pump seals, internal hoses, or molded sump parts that are not easy to access from the front. Accurate diagnosis saves time and prevents replacing the wrong part.
Preventing Future Leak Codes
Use only dishwasher detergent, keep the filter clean, avoid forcing oversized items against the door, and schedule service quickly when you notice drips or unusual moisture. Small leaks rarely stay small, especially in busy households where the dishwasher runs every day.
